I was in Japan from July 1991 to August 2003. I taught English to every age group. My registered name in Japan is Akira Moritani. In Japanese, the last name comes first and the first name comes last. My Japanese name means forest (mori) valley (tani) brightness (akira). The brightness is in the sense of light.

Ohanami: RESPECT TO THE BLOSSOMS OF SPRING

Perhaps, the best way to express the Japanese expression 'Ohanami' in English is in the phrase 'RESPECT (AND ADMIRATION) TO THE BLOSSOMS OF SPRING'. Here is a haiku in honour of this short-lived part of spring.

HERE IS TO THE BLOSSOMS OF SPRING

One blossom forms as

Another withers away.

Life's complete cycle.
